Many schools weave health awareness programs into their curriculum. Those programs improve school climate as they build wellness awareness in the wider community.

The Wellness Committee at Pulaski Elementary School in Delaware arrange many programs aimed at bringing the motto, “When our bodies feel right, our minds work right” to life at their school.

At Pulaski they play music at the end of daily announcements and let all the students get up and do some physical exercise. The school’s wellness program also extends into snack time.

As partners in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, all students are served a healthful snack each day from cucumbers or cauliflower to kiwi or pears.

Not all schools have  Wellness Committee that produces such active and multi-faceted programs, but most schools are doing their part to get out the message that exercise and good nutrition are key to being ready to learn and live healthful lives.

Is your school doing anything to promote healthy eating habits and exercise? If so, do you see it improving children’s ability to learn?  Share your stories on the School Announcement Blog!
